ABOUT ANNOOR ACADEMY


ABOUT US:
The Annoor Academy of Chattanooga is an independent Islamic school founded by the Islamic Society of Greater Chattanooga. Through the diligent work of Annoor Academy Board members and the Muslim community, the school opened November 2, 2009. There were four Pre-K students total when the school opened, and at the end of the 2009-2010 school year, there were nine students. At the beginning of 2010-2011 school year, there were 19 students enrolled in the Pre-K and Kindergarten program! The school is currently housed at the Brainerd Road location, however it will move to the new Islamic Center on Gunbarrel Road once the construction of the building is completed. Each year, one grade will be added with the objective of having all grades available in the future. Annoor Academy does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, or age. Non-Muslim students may enroll in the school; students may opt-out of religious studies.

OUR MISSION:
The mission of Annoor Academy is to provide students an excellent academic education and firm foundation in moral and ethical values. Annoor Academy fosters a dedication to God through virtuous living in an Islamic environment.

OUR VISION:
Annoor Academy seeks to foster the development of our student’s morals, intellect, emotions, socialization, and physical ability. All Annoor Academy students are expected to integrate academic skills and ethical behavior to develop a balanced character enriched with knowledge, inspired to excellence, and committed to the betterment of self, family and the global community. Quranic principles and Islamic studies are offered daily as an option for students desiring to learn about Islam.

STAFF:
All Annoor Academy teachers are trained in developmentally appropriate practice and Montessori philosophy. They participate in ongoing training in child development theory and practice. Annoor Academy employs well-trained and educated teachers to provide an excellent learning environment for our students. All staff members are CPR and First Aid certified. Director: Mrs. Ameenah is the Director of Annoor Academy and a Montessori Teacher. She has a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Human Sciences which includes courses in Early Childhood Education, and a law degree from the University of Wisconsin Law School. She has several years of teaching experience on the preschool, high school, and college levels. She is currently pursuing Montessori certification as well as additional training in child development. She participates in continuing education seminars for professional development. Lead General Studies Teacher: Mrs. Ruth is a certified teacher in Tennessee and Georgia. She has taught for over 25 years and has taught every grade level. She has a bachelor’s degree in education and a second bachelor’s in special education from Union College in Kentucky. She participates in continuing education seminars for professional development. Lead Quran Teacher: Mrs. Lama is the Lead Quran Teacher and a Montessori Teacher at Annoor Academy. She has a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from University of Aleppo in Syria, and is a certified Montessori teacher for ages 3-6. She has over 5 years experience as a primary school teacher. She participates in continuing education seminars for professional development. Lead Arabic Teacher: Mrs. Farah is the Lead Arabic Teacher and a Montessori Teacher at Annoor Academy. She has a bachelor’s degree in Engineering Architecture from University of Aleppo in Syria. She is a teacher for the Annoor Sunday School as well. She is Montessori certified in Lower Elementary Education. She participates in continuing education seminars for professional development. After-school Care: Mrs. Sally leads our after-school care program. She has an education degree from Iraq and was a certified teacher there. Substitute Teacher: Mrs. Hadeel Al-Ghoul is the substitute teacher at Annoor Academy. She has a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Political Science. She is also a volunteer teacher at Annoor Sunday School.
